Biodiversity informatics and ecological niche modelling
The course covers an introduction to a new emerging discipline of biodiversity informatics and how large-scale biodiversity data can be used for ecological modelling to solve problems in climate change, biodiversity loss, invasive species, etc.
The first part of the course covers what biodiversity data is available on the Internet, and how biodiversity data can be made interoperable and integrated from thousands of databases.
The second part deals with using that data for modelling using some of the latest techniques.
The attendees need to have basic knowledge of biodiversity issues, biological taxonomy, statistical modelling, GIS, and use of Internet. The course will be conducted in English.
