The first test interface to the central database system (Bioshare Server) at
http://www.bioshare.net/interfaces/ is now up
and accepting data. Feel free to test the system and report any serious
error messages to jere.kahanpaa@helsinki.fi. Please note that any data
you'll feed will for the time being be treated as test material only and
the database will be flushed at irregular intervals; your data will not
be safe and the database will show spurious and false observations during the
testing period.

The first public version of Biotella was released.
Biotella is a new entomological data base application for
personal computers. It can be used for data collection in the field and
import/export to central data warehouses. Biotella is free of charge and
distributed as an open source application, which means that you can
modify it to suit your needs. It runs on and requires Microsoft Access
2000.
Biotella can be downloaded from
http://zope.bioshare.net/serv/download/biotella/
Later in the year 2001, we plan to launch a central data warehouse on
the Internet that can receive and send data from and to Biotella.
- 16.3.2001
- The website is now running
with a minimal page setup (this page).
We are working on system setup and
a minimal user interface to the database
will be created in the following weeks.
The test interface will probably include
a simple form for sending data for a few
species and a sample of daily or weekly maps
of distribution in Finland or Scandinavia.
