GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) is building a distributed network of databases in order to make the world's biodiversity data freely and universally available. As of today, there are 29 data providers and 8.6 million specimen/observation records available through
GBIF's data portal.
Bioshare's data repository and its DiGIR provider were registred today at
GBIF's UDDI registry.
Therefore, datasets published at Bioshare become automatically available in GBIF's global network.
DiGIR is the web services protocol that allows query and retrieval of structured data from databases using XML.
Bioshare uses
GBIF Data Repository Tool
to manage and publish its data.
These tools are based on Zope and MySQL.
Anyone who wants to publish their
datasets can request an account
at Bioshare. Contact webmaster@bioshare.net.
