Bioshare server runs the GBIF Data Repository Tool. This is a simple data warehouse that allows publishing of datasets towards portals and search engines that understand the DiGIR protocol, such as GBIF.NET, and in near future also LUOMUS.FI and ARTPORTALEN.SE.

The Data Repository was today upgraded to version 2. The new features include delegation of publishing rights. Any collector who has his/her own database can now share data using Bioshare. The data owner gets a username and password and will remain in full control of his data. Contact webmaster@bioshare.net to get a username and password. For examples how to prepare data look at examples in the Repository, but basically your data must be in tab-separated spreadsheet file and not much more is required.

The observations reported on the web site of the Lepidopterological Society of Finland since 2000 have also now been published on Bioshare. This entailed a whole lot of work in data cleansing...

GBIF Data Repository Tool is also available as download and easily installable integrated package for those who want to operate their own DiGIR provider server.
